Noble Energy, Inc. Senior Geophysicist - Quantitative Interpretation in Houston, Texas
Responsible for quantitative seismic interpretation and serves as internal rock physics & QI expert. Support and collaborate with E&P project teams to timely deliver quality results via seismic inversion, rock physical analysis and other data analytic techniques. Develop and deliver competitive technologies to optimize field development efficiency. The focus of the work is on unconventional reservoirs, but may also include conventional reservoir projects.
Responsible for supporting E&P projects in quantitative seismic interpretation through rock physical analysis and seismic inversion
Effectively collaborate with internal project teams to establish and execute fit-for-purpose seismic QI project workflows. Deliver quality project results timely
Work with geologists, reservoir modelers, geomechanics and reservoir engineers to optimize subsurface study workflows for resource exploration, appraisal and development
Interfaces with industry groups, consortiums, and academic organizations, and represent Noble Energy within these organizations
Stay abreast with industry trend, screen and introduce outside technologies to enhance internal workflows
Develop advanced differential technologies that will improve company efficiency and lend Noble Energy competitive advantages
Provide peer reviews, internal training in seismic QI and rock physics as needed
Ensure the quality of Noble-proprietary technologies regarding rock physics and seismic inversion
Minimum of Master’s Degree in geophysics or related disciplines from accredited universities, PhD preferred
Typically requires 7+ years of industry experiences, additional academic or R&D experience a strong plus
Must understand unconventional reservoir characterization and simulation workflow, including static modeling, geomechanics modeling and reservoir simulation
Able to perform seismic petrophysical analysis, integrate with core data to build rock physical models for fluid saturation, TOC contents, and reservoir property predictions
Able to derive and calibrate geomechanical property distribution through integration of core, geologic facie distribution, seismic petrophysics and hi-res seismic inversion
Must be experienced and proficient at least in one of the inversion software packages such as Hampson Russell, Jason or Ji-Fi, etc. and one of the industry petrophysical analysis tools, such as Techlog or Geolog
Strong in both physics-based and data-driven analytic skills, proficient in implementing new algorithms with one or more languages, such as C, MatLab, Mathematica, Python, etc.
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Must be proactive in reaching out to internal client teams, identify opportunities to contribute as a team member with significant impact
